At Shapes Glow Studio, the two questions we hear most often are: "Should I get my brows threaded or laminated?" and "Which one actually lasts longer?" Sophie B — our founder and lead brow artist — has answered this question for thousands of clients across Vancouver and Surrey. Here's her complete breakdown.
What is Eyebrow Threading?
Threading is an ancient hair removal technique using a 100% cotton thread, twisted and rolled across the skin to lift and remove hair from the follicle. It is the most precise method available for brow shaping — far more accurate than waxing or tweezing — and it uses absolutely no chemicals, making it ideal for sensitive skin.
At Shapes Glow Studio, every eyebrow threading appointment includes a consultation, professional shaping tailored to your facial structure, and a complimentary brow massage. The whole appointment takes 20–30 minutes.
Sophie's tip: If you have sensitive skin, rosacea, or are currently using retinoids or exfoliating acids, threading is almost always the better choice. It doesn't disturb the skin surface at all.
What is Brow Lamination?
Brow lamination is a newer treatment that restructures the hairs in your brows, setting them in a uniform, upward-brushed direction. The result is the fluffy, full, "soap brow" look — defined, groomed and polished without any filling in or makeup required.
Our brow lamination service at Shapes Glow Studio includes the lamination chemical treatment, a professional tint, and a full shaping — all in a single 60–75 minute appointment. The results last 4–6 weeks.
The Key Differences
- Threading shapes and removes: It's ideal for defining the arch, removing unwanted hair and maintaining a clean line. Perfect as a regular maintenance treatment every 3–4 weeks.
- Lamination restructures and styles: It works with the existing hairs you have, making sparse brows appear fuller and taming unruly or downward-growing hairs. Lasts 4–6 weeks between appointments.
- Threading has no downtime: You can get it done on your lunch break and walk straight back to work.
- After lamination, you must avoid water, steam and sweating for 24 hours to allow the treatment to set properly.
Which Lasts Longer?
Brow lamination wins here — results last 4–6 weeks compared to threading which typically needs a touch-up every 3–4 weeks. However, many of our clients combine both: getting a lamination every 6–8 weeks and a threading shape in between to maintain the clean line.
The winning combo: Brow lamination every 6–8 weeks + threading touch-up in between = perfect brows all year round. Ask us about our combination appointments at either our Vancouver or Surrey studio.
Which Should You Choose?
- Choose threading if you want a quick, precise, chemical-free shape that keeps brows defined. Great for regular maintenance.
- Choose brow lamination if you have sparse, unruly or downward-growing hairs and want fuller, more polished brows that last weeks without daily effort.
- Choose both if you want the absolute best of both worlds — and most of our loyal clients do exactly that.
