Face waxing for women is one of the most under-discussed beauty treatments — which is surprising given how many women struggle with unwanted facial hair. At Shapes Glow Studio, upper lip waxing and full face waxing are consistently booked services at both our Vancouver and Surrey locations.
Common Areas for Female Face Waxing
- Upper lip: the most common area — removes fine or coarse hair above the lip line
- Chin: removes single dark hairs and broader chin hair growth
- Cheeks/sideburns: removes side face and sideburn hair that catches light
- Full face: a combination treatment covering all facial areas
On threading vs waxing for the face: Threading is often gentler for sensitive skin types. Waxing removes more surface hair at once and is faster for wider areas like the cheeks. Sophie recommends the best technique for each client individually.
Is Face Waxing Safe for All Skin Types?
With some caveats. The main contraindications are:
- Active retinoid use: Stop using them at least 72 hours before any facial waxing
- Recent chemical peels: Wait at least 2 weeks
- Active acne or inflamed skin: Wait for the skin to calm
- Sunburned skin: Do not wax sunburned skin
Does It Make Hair Grow Back Thicker?
No — this is one of the most persistent beauty myths. Waxing removes hair from the root, and repeated waxing over time can actually cause hairs to grow back finer as the follicle weakens. Hair texture is determined by genetics and hormones — not by removal method.
After Your Face Wax
Mild redness for 20–60 minutes is normal. Avoid makeup on waxed areas for 4–6 hours. No exfoliation, retinoids or acids for 48 hours post-wax. Apply SPF on any exposed waxed skin the next day.
Upper lip wax from $12, chin from $12, full face from $35. Available at both our Vancouver and Surrey studios. Book online or call 604-736-6245.
