Summer is our busiest waxing season — and it's also the season where aftercare matters most. Heat, sweat, chlorine, saltwater and increased sun exposure all affect post-wax skin in ways that don't apply in cooler months.
The First 24 Hours: What to Avoid
Freshly waxed skin has open follicles. For the first 24 hours, your skin is more vulnerable. In summer this means:
- No sun exposure on waxed areas for 24–48 hours
- No hot showers or baths — heat increases inflammation
- No swimming — chlorine and saltwater both irritate freshly opened follicles
- No gym sessions — sweat and friction on open follicles leads to breakouts and ingrown hairs
Timing trick: Book your wax for evenings or on days when you have no outdoor plans for 24 hours. A Tuesday evening appointment means you're clear for the beach by Thursday.
Preventing Ingrown Hairs in Summer
Ingrown hairs are more common in summer because heat and sweat cause more dead skin cell buildup. The solution is consistent, gentle exfoliation — but not immediately after waxing:
- Wait at least 48–72 hours after waxing before resuming exfoliation
- Use a gentle exfoliating mitt or AHA body lotion 2–3 times per week between appointments
- Avoid tight synthetic clothing that traps sweat against freshly waxed skin
- Apply a thin layer of tea tree or salicylic acid toner on ingrown-prone areas 48 hours post-wax
The Summer-Specific Aftercare Routine
- Day 1–2: Loose cotton clothing, no heat, no friction, no exfoliation
- Day 2–3: Gentle moisturiser, start SPF on any exposed waxed areas
- Day 3–7: Light exfoliation begins, maintain daily SPF
- Day 7+: Normal routine resumes, continue exfoliating 2–3x/week
